Interesting facts Second largest airport in Namibia

Walvis Bay Airport is situated 15 kilometres from the harbour town of Walvis Bay . It handles daily connections to Johannesburg , Cape Town and Windhoek (HKIA and Eros) and is a point of departure for many charter flights to all parts of the country. Complemented by the harbour (the only big harbour in Namibia), Walvis Bay Airport has the potential to become a leader in cargo handling by servicing the vibrant Namibian fishing sector and its downstream activities.

The fishing activity at the town of Walvis Bay and the establishment of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) near the airport is set to position Walvis Bay airport as the second largest airport in Namibia . In addition, the airport has a favourable location just above sea level (91m) which minimizes aircraft operational costs and has generated tremendous interest from local and foreign operators, both from within the tourism and business sectors.

The airport is undergoing major upgrading that will allow it to cater to wide-bodied aircraft, consolidating the status of Walvis Bay Airport as a true international airport.

The airport provides facilities such as a coffee shop, gift shops, retailer space and car-rental kiosks. Incorporated in the terminal building is a meeter&greeter area and a tourist information. It has hangars available, both JetA1 and AVGAS and maintenance facilities, operated by Namibia Commercial Aviation and West Air maintenance.
